Move-in day... I took one step into our new house, KitchenAid mixer in one hand and duffle bag of heels in another. I spent the next 4 hours tearing off as much wallpaper as I could all over the house while my husband and family unloaded the UHAUL (you should know, that many big realty agencies own their own moving trucks and allow their clients to use for free/small fee.. just some free money for ya – take it or leave it;) ).
Old houses usually have SO MUCH WALLPAPER. It’s ridiculous
and oh-so-ugly. Luckily, because it is old all the glue is coming up at the
corners. We pulled as much off as possible and left the rest – I know, I know…
that is usually a huge no –no. Well, we loved textured walls, so while we
textured over all the leftover wallpaper, just mud down every edge of the
wallpaper and there’s no way anyone will ever, ever know that you didn’t spend
a thousand dollars (OR thousand hours, take your pick) having someone get every
scrap of wallpaper off the walls.
My parents are building a new house, and I’ve offered to
come stop by and “check things out” aka steal ideas and techniques. When my mom
said they were texturing, I jumped all over that. I sat on the floor behind them and just watched, took notes on my
iphone, and snapped several pictures (picture posted below).
Texturing is super easy. Just get your tv hooked up on
somewhere and find a good series to watch (gotta love Netflix - I’m hooked on
Pretty Little Liars!). I would treat mud similar to paint and just cover your
floor/carpet if you care about it.
My parents are spending thousands of dollars texturing their whole house and the picture on the right shows what theirs looked like in progress. My duplication of it on the left… well, my mom decided to
jump in and help. I turned my back for 3 seconds and this is what happened...

Hard to capture in a picture, but texturing adds so much character to a room – every
time someone walks into our door they ALWAYS notice our textured walls. This is
one of those easy, CHEAP, house-changer type of projects, it just instantly increases
the depth and face value of your walls and room!
Enjoy!
