For the past couple days we have been out and about! The sun was shining and it was a whopping 41 degrees (I'll take it!). Since Ben was on Spring Break this week, my little-family-trio decided to stop by NYU Dental School to pick up a few things and take a walk around our favorite neighborhood - SoHo. As we find more little gems around this great big city I will be writing about them under a "NYC FAVORITES" title, so anyone can reference them when you come visit! The most frustrating thing about visiting NYC is that every coffee shop, restaurant, and boutique claims to be the best and most trendy. Well, why there may be alot of great places, I am starting a list of tried and true places that will be for-certain crowd pleasers.
Murray's Cheese Shop. Theres a wine bar next door to Murray's that serves their cheeses and meats. That's how we found out about them. We tasted a cheese called Persille de Rambouillet (Seriously. We had to have our waiter write it on a napkin for us!), and it was SO good. Our waiter sent us next door after we ooh-ed and ahh-ed over the yummy cheese, and it was there our obsession began. We also picked up some sausage and thick cut bacon. Both were incredibly fresh tasting and mouth-watering (...but then again, when is bacon not?!). A friend of mine said she also loves Murray's because you can get fresh ravioli there (her kids favorite) for a great price. If you are visiting NYC, meat and ravioli may not be the best for the plane ride home - but hard cheeses will travel just fine! Need anymore reasons to go there? I think not.
Just around the corner there is a little restaurant named Ellary Green's. (Sidenote: If you aren't from around here, you will be shocked at just how little almost every restaurant actually is. I am still surprised that restaurants stay in business when they can only fit about 20 people at a time. Blows my mind.) Ellary Green's is a cafe-feeling kind of place that you can rest easy knowing that anything you order is made of top quality ingredients. They also have a great juice bar menu too. I ordered the chickpea burger on a whole grain english muffin with a tomato-jam spread. When I eat out I usually order pretty heavy meals (beef with bacon, pasta with bacon, pizza with bacon... you get my drift...), but this light yet flavorful dish was YUM. I would totally go back and order it again.
Enjoy!
