Subway Signs

I. Love. These.! Everyday since we've had these hung I admire them when I walk by. We have HUGE empty walls - so, like we made the mirrors for the wall parallel, we needed something for this behemoth wall too. Oh, and did I mention, all the material I used were recycled from other projects (except for the printing of course)?

We love restoration hardware, but man that stuff is pricey - sooo I decided to make these myself! I went online and read the description of their subway signs:

Oh, I can totally make that! We already had alot of crown molding left over from my parents house that I salvaged out of the rain - I was obviously more eager to save the wood than the builders! To them - there is so much more where that came from I'm sure... well, we are broke and on a budget, so into the rain I went.

I used left over black spray paint for the frames (YES, spray paint... and you can't even tell!), faux linen remnants from some other craft I had done, and typed up our customized subway sign words. We chose to do street names from College Station (where we met), Park City (our honeymoon spot), and London (where we hope to visit in the future). That was ACTUALLY Ben's ideas... (collective "aww") I know, my man is so sentimental!

We printed our the words on engineering paper and glued it to cardboard (leftover from all of our moving boxes), to give it more of a 3D appearance.

I built the frames this time!... And actually, I did this whole project by myself (Ben helped space out the linen when I was gluing :))... But I have to say I'm darn proud of myself for accomplishing this alone.

Usually, with projects that I build entirely by myself I sit and stare at all the flaws I know exist... But these I feel solid about. Yeah, I would've done a couple things different during assembly, but all in all I am in love - and all this love was bought for the bargain deal of $27 :)
